FRANCIS J. COLLINS is a Connecticut lawyer who practices in the greater Danbury, and in Fairfield and Litchfield Counties, primarily in the fields of Real Estate, Workers' Compensation, Administrative Law, Commercial, and Land Use matters. He presently serves as counsel to the Brookfield Planning and Zoning Commissions, Brookfield Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Ridgefield Planning and Zoning and Inland Wetlands Commissions. Mr. Collins published “Planning and Zoning in Connecticut” in Connecticut Real Property Law, a textbook for attorneys. He is past chairman of the Board of Directors of Connecticut Attorneys Title Insurance Company, a non-profit bar-related title insurance company and CATIC Financial, Inc., its holding company. He is admitted to practice in the State of Connecticut, and is a member of the American, Connecticut, and Danbury Bar Associations.
Attorney Collins obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami, Ohio, in 1955, and his law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1962. He continues to practice as a member of the prestigious Danbury law firm, Collins Hannafin, P. C. Both Attorney Collins individually and the firm of Collins Hannafin collectively have earned an AV rating under Martindale Hubbell's peer review rating system, the highest rating which can be achieved. Attorney Collins has obtained an excellent reputation in his representation of hundreds of individual and business clients in Residential and Commercial Real Estate matters, Workers' Compensation matters, Administrative Law, Commercial matters, and Land Use matters.
Attorney Collins's record of public service includes having served in the Connecticut Legislature for eight years holding the posts of Minority Leader and Speaker of the House. He was one of the first attorneys appointed as a State Trial Referee under the Judicial Department's effort to expedite case hearings. He served for six years on the State Judicial Selection Committee. He also served as a member of both the State and local attorney grievance committees. Mr. Collins is a former chairman of the Danbury Chamber of Commerce and serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. He serves as Town Counsel for the Town of Brookfield.
Attorney Collins, a long-time Brookfield, Connecticut, resident, has five adult children and currently lives in Oxford with his wife.
